Sales Tax Eliminated From Y Memberships

Effective March 26, your YMCA membership dues and program fees will no longer be subject to Kentucky state sales tax. You’ll recall in July of last year changes in state law required us to begin charging and remitting sales tax on your membership dues, along with some program fees. This change in the law will mean a lower monthly payment for our members in Kentucky. As an organization committed to the health of our entire community, we are excited that this potential barrier to programs meant to encourage good health, reduce social isolation, and deepen relationships has been eliminated.

Beginning in April, a second change will affect some membership categories. The Y has instituted a slight increase to some membership rates. While the increase is small it is necessary to offset increases in our operating costs, particularly our ability to maintain quality staff and the high service level you deserve.  The overall combined net effect of these two changes will be a decrease in monthly payments even in the categories impacted by the small rate increase.

For additional information about how the sales tax laws or the rate increase may affect your monthly membership payment, please contact your local YMCA branch.
