TRANSITIONAL SHELTER

At the Chestnut Street Family YMCA, we offer a Transitional Shelter for homeless men in our community. We have 41 single-occupancy rooms.

QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for the program, residents:
  • Must have verification that they are homeless
  • Are subject to a background check
  • Cannot have any violent crimes or drug felonies within the last 7 years
  • Cannot have been or currently be listed on the sex offender registry

THE PROGRAM

Once in the program, residents are required to abide by the Articles of Agreement. The men have chores and are responsible to live together in a community setting by maintaining their personal space and keeping up the common areas.

We provide our residents with case management, computer training, tutoring and workshops to help them on the road to self-sufficiency. Several steps are taken to recognize and lift up the residents through our resident spotlight. The residents are spotlighted for completing chores and tasks without incident and also for their positive attitudes, furthering their education and maintaining employment. The residents need and look forward to the structure, balance and commitment the program offers them.

APPLICATION PROCESS

There is currently a waiting list. To apply for the program, a gentleman can obtain an application from the front desk of the Chestnut Street Family YMCA and their name will be placed on the waiting list. It is understood that once an applicant is approved by the YMCA, he must make a formal application with Louisville Metro Housing Authority. The information will be treated confidentially and will be used by only management in determining the eligibility of the applicant for residence.
