YMCA BLACK ACHIEVERS
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. Through our YMCA Black Achievers program, we do just that. We motivate teens in grades 8-12 to pursue high educational and career goals so that they can reach their fullest potential.
PURPOSE & HIGHLIGHTS
The Black Achievers program does not exclude based on race, but rather is a multiracial effort to help all teens of color develop to their fullest potential. Our objectives are to help youth view themselves in a positive way, raise academic standards, build character, shoe students various career options, have role models whose success and knowledge will help inspire and motivate, and provide business and industry leaders the opportunity for community involvement.
We offer leadership training seminars, college enrichment, community service projects and special events that include:
- ACT/SAT Workshops
- ACT Practice Test
- College Tours
- Scholarships
- College & Career Fair
- Company Work Site Tours
- Community Service Projects
- Black History Showcase
- Kwanzaa Celebration
- Annual Awards Banquet
CAREER CLUSTERS
We have a variety of career clusters that offer something for everyone. Our clusters grouped as follows: 8th Grade Cluster, Arts Cluster, Business Cluster, Communications Cluster, Computer Cluster, Education Cluster, Engineering Cluster, Health & Medical Cluster, Hospitality Cluster and our Law & Government Cluster.
CRITERIA & ENROLLMENT
We serve teens in grades 8-12. Registration includes a Youth Membership to the Chestnut Street Family YMCA (some additional fees may apply). No scholastic requirement to enroll.Call 587.7405 to find out how you can volunteer and get involved with this program.
