YOUTH ENGAGEMENT IN SPORTS (YES)
Encouraging regular physical activity in childhood and adolescence is key to promoting lifelong health. The Youth Engagement in Sports (YES) Initiative offered through the YMCA is an opportunity for middle school youth to be more active, track their activity level and participate in a variety of activities to make exercise more fun!
All participants will receive safe and healthy after-school activity options, healthy snacks, a fitness tracker, and a youth membership to the YMCA. Some participants will be randomly selected to participate in a structured fitness and nutrition program held two evenings per week and one Saturday per month led by YMCA.

- Structured Physical Literacy program
- Structured Nutritional Literacy program
The YES initiative is part of an Indiana University research study of youth fitness and nutrition. The program is made possible through a federal grant funded by the US Office of Women's Health & Office of Minority Health. YMCA youth memberships funded by this grant require enrollment and on-going participation in the study. Data will be collected on all participants, including activity and nutrition. The program is open to 5th through 7th graders living in the west Louisville neighborhoods of Russell, California, Portland, Park Hill, Parkland and Park DuValle.
