YMCA LIFEGUARD COURSE 
The YMCA Lifeguarding Course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to be a lifeguard and professional rescuer. You will be certified in YMCA Lifeguard and ASHI CPR Pro for the professional rescuer, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration.
The course presents information on the skills and knowledge lifeguards need in pool, lake, river, and water park environments. Our comprehensive course offers up-to-date information on how to lifeguard by anticipating and preventing problems before they occur and by taking action to help those in danger when necessary.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
Minimum age of 16 by the last day of the course.
- Tread water for 2 minutes (legs only)
- Swim 100 yards front crawl
- 250 endurance swim. Swim 50 yards of each: Front crawl head up, Sidestroke, Breaststroke, Breaststroke with head up, Elementary backstroke kick with hands on chest.
Perform a feet first surface dive in 10' of water. Then swim underwater for 15'.
25 yard sprint and surface dive to the bottom and retrieve an object, tread water for 1 minute, return object to bottom, hoist yourself out of the pool without the use of a ladder, immediately begin CPR compression for 1-minute (approximately 100 compressions), then scan and identify object as instructed.

All participants must attend the orientation. Participants under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian at the orientation session. Participants must attend all classes to become certified.
Participants will be certified in CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration during the course. These certifications are required to be a certified lifeguard.
