Learning to swim is a life skill as well as great exercise and lots of fun. We offer swim lessons for all ages, from infants all the way through to adults so we can all safely enjoy the pleasures of an aquatic environment.
The Y has been teaching swimming for over 100 years with nationally-certified and highly-trained instructors. Our lessons focus on essential, life-saving skills and techniques while helping encourage swimming as an excellent tool for lifelong wellness. Swim lessons provide a wealth of benefits that go far beyond the water.
YMCA swim lessons are available year-round at multiple locations and are designed to ensure safety, success and fun for all participants. Lessons are available for all ages, starting as early as 6 months old. Whether you are a beginner or just want to improve your skills in the water, we have a class that is right for you!

SWIM LESSON CLASS LEVELS
Parents accompany their infant or toddler in the water, exploring fundamentals like blowing bubbles, back floats and essential safety around water skills.
Level A: Water Discovery (Ages 6 months-12 months)
Is the first introduction to the water.
Level B: Water Exploration (Ages 13 months-3 years)
Starts to build more aquatic skills.
Swim Basics 1: Water Acclimation (Preschool & Youth: Ages 3 and up)
Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self rescue skills performed with assistance.
Swim Basics 2: Water Movement (Preschool & Youth: Ages 3 and up)
Encourages forward movement in water and basic self rescue skills performed independently.
Swim Basics 3: Water Stamina (Preschool & Youth: Ages 3 and up)
Develops intermediate self rescue skills and introduces rhythmic breathing with integrated movements.
Swim Strokes 4: Stroke Introduction (Preschool & Youth: Ages 3 and up)
Introduces basic technique for front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke kick, butterfly kick, treading water and elementary backstroke.
Swim Strokes 5: Stroke Development (Youth: Ages 6 and up)
Develops technique for all major competitive strokes and reinforces safety through continued work on treading water and sidestroke.
Swim Strokes 6: Stroke Mechanics (Youth: Ages 6 and up)
Refines technique for all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle.
TEEN/ADULT SWIM LESSONS
Teen/Adult swim lessons are available for every level, from beginner to advanced stroke and skill development. Schedules vary for each season and additional options may be added as needed.
ADAPTIVE SWIM LESSONS
AGES 18 & UNDER
Lessons will be scheduled based on need and each swimmer will have a one-on-one meeting with the instructor to discuss goals and adapt the lessons to encourage success. Lessons combine learning to swim with exercise and the therapeutic benefits of working in the water. Schedules vary for each season and additional options may be added as needed.
