How It Works
YMCA Swim Teams are open to swimmers of varying skill levels who can swim at least 25 yards unassisted on both their front and back. An evaluation is required prior to joining, which may be scheduled at the start of each season or by appointment.
Participants benefit from structured coaching, skill development, and team-building experiences in a fun, supportive environment.
Practice Frequency:
Most teams practice 2–3 times per week, with higher-level groups training more frequently.
Membership Note:
You do not need to be a YMCA member to try out. However, active membership is required to practice and compete with the team.
Program Levels
Blue:
Beginner swimmers developing stroke technique, starts, and turns. Practices 2–3 times per week.
Silver:
Intermediate swimmers preparing for Y-USA competitive meets. Focus on endurance, skill refinement, and consistency.
Gold:
Advanced swimmers training for Regional Y-USA Zones and state competitions. Practices 3 days per week with elevated expectations.
Platinum:
Elite-level swimmers preparing for high-level competitions including Nationals. Includes conditioning, high-volume training, and strategic coaching. Practices 4–5 times per week.
