- Ages: Must be 16 years old by the last day of the scheduled course
- Cost: Starting at $175 for facility members; $225 for program members. Rates may vary by location.
- If hired as a YMCA lifeguard, your registration fee will be refunded (additional length-of-hire requirements may apply).

How It Works
The YMCA Lifeguard Certification course prepares participants to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide professional-level care.
Skills Covered Include:
- Lifeguarding techniques and emergency systems
- Rescue skills and scanning strategies
- First aid and spinal injury management
- Open water safety and accident prevention
- Legal responsibilities and pool operations
- How to pursue employment as a certified lifeguard
Courses include both classroom and in-water components. Attendance is mandatory for successful completion.
Certifications Included
All participants who successfully complete the course will receive:
- YMCA Lifeguard Certification
- ASHI CPR Pro (BLS) for the Professional Rescuer
- ASHI Basic First Aid
- ASHI Emergency Oxygen Administration
Certification is valid for two years. The YMCA often hires lifeguards year-round, with opportunities for a full course refund, competitive pay, and a free Community-Wide YMCA membership.
