About the Program
Program Overview
The Supportive Housing Program at the Chestnut Street Family YMCA provides safe, stable, and affordable housing for homeless men committed to building a better future. The program includes 41 single-occupancy rooms and a structured support system designed to help residents move toward self-sufficiency.
In addition to housing, residents receive:
- Case management
- Computer access and training
- Tutoring and educational workshops
- Community engagement and personal development support
Resident Expectations
All residents must agree to the program’s Articles of Agreement, which include, but are not limited to:
- Respect for staff, fellow residents, and YMCA property
- No guests allowed on residence floors
- Cleanliness and upkeep of living space
- No drugs, alcohol, weapons, or public intoxication
- Quiet hours observed after 11:00 PM
- Participation in employment, school, or volunteer work
- Mandatory meetings with staff and fellow residents
Violation of any rule may lead to eviction. Multiple minor violations will also result in removal from the program.

Residents are recognized for their positive contributions through a Resident Spotlight initiative, which highlights achievements like maintaining employment, furthering education, and demonstrating leadership.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for residency, applicants must:
Verify that they are currently homeless
Pass a background check (no violent or drug-related felonies within the past 7 years)
Not be listed on the sex offender registry
Be willing to live cooperatively and follow the program's Articles of Agreement
Application Process
There is currently a waiting list. To apply:
Pick up an application from the front desk at the Chestnut Street Family YMCA or download the Supportive Housing Application (PDF).
Once approved by YMCA staff, complete a formal application with Louisville Metro Housing Authority.
Final eligibility will be determined by YMCA management and all information is kept confidential.
