Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about check-in, camp life, meals, bunking, homesickness, or departure? You’ll find answers here to help you plan, prepare, and feel confident sending your child to YMCA Camp Piomingo.
What should I know before registering my child for camp?
Camp is open to youth ages 6 to 16. We offer a variety of age-specific and specialty programs. Campers can register for one or more sessions, based on availability. We encourage early registration and open communication—if your child has physical or emotional needs, please contact us at 502-942-2616 to discuss how we can best support them.
What do I need to submit to register my child?
A completed registration form and a $100 non-refundable deposit per session. Registering online is the fastest method, but phone registration is also available.
Can you set up auto-draft payments?
Yes. Auto-drafts can be scheduled online or by phone. Payments run on the 1st of each month through your session’s due date.
Do you offer scholarships?
Yes. Income-based scholarships are awarded through our Annual Campaign on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit our Financial Assistance page to learn more and download an application.
What if I need to cancel or change my camper’s session?
Cancellations must be made in writing at least two weeks before your session begins. The $100 deposit is non-refundable. We can move your camper to another available session at no charge.
Can my child attend if they have special needs?
We’ll do our best to accommodate all campers, but uneven terrain and rustic facilities may limit access. Please call us in advance to discuss your child’s needs.
Can we tour camp before registering?
Absolutely. Call 502-942-2616 to schedule a tour or attend one of our spring Open Houses.
How are cabin assignments made?
Cabins are assigned by age, gender, and program. Campers may request up to two bunkmates. We do our best to honor requests, but they are not guaranteed.
Do I need to take my child to the doctor before camp?
No physical is required. However, a completed health form is mandatory and must be submitted online before arrival.
Where can I find the packing list and parent info packet?
These resources are both available above on this For Parents page. The packing list is also in your registration confirmation email.
When is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is Sunday afternoon. Check-out is Friday afternoon. Assigned times will be emailed the week before your session.
What if my child needs to leave camp early?
Call the office in advance to make arrangements. Early pickups must occur through the Main Office to minimize program disruption.
What should I complete before check-in?
Log in to your CampMinder account and ensure your balance is paid, and all forms—including health, t-shirt, and camper info—are complete.
Where do we go when we arrive?
Follow signs and staff directions. Once paperwork is complete, you’ll meet the nurse and help your camper settle in. Parents should depart before the end of their check-in window.
What if my child takes medication?
All medications—including vitamins—must be turned in to the nurse at check-in in original containers. A list of OTC meds we provide is in the Parent Packet.
What happens the first day of camp?
Campers take a swim test, tour camp, meet their cabinmates, enjoy dinner, and kick off the week with Opening Campfire.
Can I visit my camper during the week?
No visitors are allowed during sessions. We post daily photos and campers send a postcard home.
What if my child is homesick?
Our team helps campers adjust through active schedules and supportive guidance. We’ll contact you if extra support is needed.
How do you handle behavior issues?
Campers are expected to follow rules that ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment. Serious or repeated issues may result in dismissal without a refund.
What if my child is a picky eater?
We offer a variety of meals with options like cereal, salad bar, and sandwiches. Allergies and restrictions are noted on the camper’s health form.
Does camp offer laundry?
Yes—for two-week campers or if needed for soiled bedding. Laundry service is $15 or included in CIT fees.
Do cabins have air conditioning or heat?
Cabins have windows, ceiling fans, and exhaust fans but no AC or heat. Feel free to bring your own fan. Outlets are limited.
Is there Wi-Fi at camp?
Wi-Fi is available in the Dining Hall and nearby areas, primarily for staff use. While campers may occasionally connect briefly under staff supervision, we encourage everyone to unplug, be present, and fully enjoy the face-to-face connections and outdoor experiences that make camp special.
Is medical staff onsite?
Yes. Nurses live on-site during sessions. Staff are certified in first aid, and parents are contacted in case of serious illness or injury.
What happens if it rains?
Camp continues in light rain. In thunder or lightning, campers shift to indoor activities until it’s safe to resume.
What if my child loses something?
Call us at 502-942-2616. Found items are held for two weeks, then donated.
We encourage both campers and parents to write during the session—it’s a highlight of the day for many kids. One popular option is to drop off pre-labeled letters at check-in, one for each day of the week. This ensures timely delivery and avoids postal delays.
Mail Call happens daily after lunch or dinner.
Label each piece of mail with:
- Camper’s full name
- Cabin number
- Week attending
- Day to deliver
To send mail or packages during the week:
