Y LOVE NOTES
The YMCA of Greater Louisville has received a grant from the DHHS Office of Population Affairs to do Teen Pregnancy Prevention. This is a fantastic opportunity to deliver a curriculum (Love Notes), which has been in this community for several years and validated as evidence based by UofL. Though we cover all of the bases, this is not your typical sex ed. Rather, this fun and engaging program helps youth build better relationships and is a natural extension of our YMCA commitment to Youth Development, Healthy Living, Social Responsibility, and Character Development.
This program is about caring for your body, respecting others, helping parents and teens have honest conversations, and developing the self-confidence for youth to make responsible decisions. It involves a comprehensive healthy relationship education curriculum that teaches adolescents and young adults (14-24) how to build healthy romantic relationships, prevent dating violence, and improve impulse control.
The grant will expose 1,750+ teens and young adults to the Love Notes curriculum. The Y will focus initially on reaching teens and young adults in West and South Louisville. The initiative will be facilitated through our Chestnut Street YMCA and through strategic partnerships with organizations and schools who serve our target audience.
To help youth continue to make healthy choices, the grant allows teens that complete the Y Love Notes 16-hour program to receive a free annual Youth Membership or their entire family can enjoy the Y at a 50 percent discount.
